So I have decided to create a column on my blog that will appear weekly, bi-monthly, monthly. I know myself pretty well at this age and I think I will start small and work my way up to weekly, for now it will be monthly!
Occasionally in the past, I have blogged about my vintage textile or vintage clothing finds but I am not sure I have explained the depth on my addiction conviction. When I see an old quilt, vintage dress or handbag I get this stirring inside me that starts asking, who made this and who did they make it for? Or with clothing, I wonder, who wore this? Did she have a cute little evening bag and matching shoes and where was she going? My imagination goes wild and I feel connected to these women as I run my hand over the hand crocheted bedspreads or fine embroidery. I feel it is so important not to forget the women who came before us! I have so many finds I could set up a booth at Brimfield!
So once a month I am going to show you my finds and invite you to tell me about yours. It can be something you already have had for some time or just picked up (because you know I will be excited right along with you). OH! Maybe I (we) should start a flicker page and we can all share pictures if we have them (or maybe somebody will volunteer to set it up? ha! GEEZ Monica! who's idea was this, anyway? I have only basics down with flicker....give me a day to figure it all out.)
So today I am combining all sorts of ideas into a neat bundle. I am hosting a give-away and a name-this-column all into one. I was thinking of names like "New Love, Old Finds" or "Flirting With The Past", help! I need suggestions. For the start of the column, I am giving away some of the wonderful finds that I scored at that estate/garage sale recently, gotta love New England garage sales! I was going to sell a bunch of these linens on Etsy but I have decided to give some away. More fun, and maybe I can get away with not having to press them all, haha! -insert here- because she is lazy!
The first give-away are these large napkins. They are a beautiful heavy linen and I thought they would be super cute for Halloween /Fall. I think I have 8 of them. ( I will check, they are stored under my bed and my hubby has a cold and is still sleeping.) Just make a comment you can tell me something old that you have and love (not your husband, girls!) and maybe a name suggestion for my column and I will name a winner next Thursday Sept. 30th. Just enter once please, the winner will be chosen randomly. The column will appear every second to last Thursday of the month. I will highlight some of my goodies, give some goodies away and hear about your goodies! Oh fun! Does that cover everything? Oh! I will measure the napkins when the sleeping giant awakes! (They are 16 x 16) As for myself, I have been too afraid to use vintage linens for sewing projects but after meeting Betz White and reading her book, Sewing Green about re purposing fabrics MAYBE I will be brave enough to do it!
