So the plot thickened as I contacted Ron and then talked to my mom. I think the Beach House where I am staying is in the same location as Gale and Lucille's, my grandfather hamburger stand. I am really excited to go out and check it out. My dad scanned these pictures (I am impressed, Dad!) that my mother had received from Lucille's daughter or grand daughter awhile back. Mother went to his funeral but did she and my Aunt Lyla decided to leave his things with Lucille (his girlfriend, scandalous!) since she took care of him. The young girl next to my mom in the photos is a girl whose parents used to move into the Biltmore Hotel for the summer. And the photo from the pier has my Aunt Lyla Lee (who I was named after) and her cousin Bob posing with the Biltmorel behind them in the distance. They look so handsome, don't they!? I love old photos, that is the part of me that is stuck in the past. I am somewhat enchanted by this era. I think this is why I cannot completely embrace everything "modern". I think I am more "soft modern". It is reflected in my art and my home. I enjoy building on things from the past, the slower pace, the charm. There is something about summer that really brings these feelings out in me. I can't wait to soak up the sun before I head to Surtex. AND if you can believe it...I am ready to go. My banners arrive today and I am putting finishing touches on my art today, hooray!
